Hello

I'm looking for information on my great grandfather, Francis Martel (b.1858) in St Brelade. His mother and father were Francis Martel (b. 1826) and Susan Michel (b. 1825). I have seen the census of 1871 that sees Francis (Martel) in the Jersey Industrial School for Boys, so I assume that his mother had died or could not cope with him. On the previous census in 1861, he was listed as Francis (Michel) living with his mother Susan, who was "widowed". As his father Francis was a "Mariner" I have assumed that he may have died at sea but I have no idea where to look for Maritime records in Jersey.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
