Hi I am trying to help a friend locate her great granddad we have found him on the 1891 census age 16 living in Huddersfield but we can not understand his occupation, it looks like 'Winted Hand', REF RG12/3957 family Sykes. Please any ideas what it could be and what did they do?

Hello RoyW
I don't have access to the census at the moment, but thinking of Huddersfield's woollen industry could it be Worsted Hand?

Hello Coromandel,
Looking closer yes it could be Worsted Hand, I assume therefore they would be general workers in the mill. should have said the page no. 20

Hello again RoyW. On the 1911 census for Witney there are many people who originally called themselves 'mill hands' or 'factory hands' when filling in their schedules, but in most cases the enumerators have crossed these out and put 'labourers' instead.
