Hello Warren and welcome to the forum.

To start this off I thought i would look for Alice Sarah Ann RICE born 1863.

Alice may have married Samuel Edward BURGESS in 1882 but you would need the details from the marriage certificate to be sure. I'll check CityArk later.

    Marriages Dec 1882 N. Aylesford 2a 773
    BURGESS Samuel Edward
    COLLINS Emma
    RICE Alice Sarah A
    Thomas Henry Edward

    In the census...

    1891: Piece: 426 Folio: 129 Page: 28
    140 Stewarts Road, Battersea, London
BURGESS Edward 29, head, bus conductor, Rochester Kent
BURGESS Alice 27, wife, Stroud, Kent
BURGESS Alice 5, dau, Rochester Kent
BURGESS Vincent 3, son, Rochester Kent

    1901: Piece: 444 Folio: 143 Page: 7
    140 Stewarts Road, Battersea
BURGESS, Samuel E, head, 38, masons labourer, Rochester Kent
BURGESS, Alice S, wife, 36, Stroud Kent
BURGESS, Alice M M, dau, 15, Rochester Kent
BURGESS, Vincent T , son 13, Rochester Kent
BURGESS, Violet E, dau, 9, Clapham
DEMPSEY, Henry, boarder, 35, engine driver railway, Lambeth London

    1911: RG14/508 SN8
Hospital for ?, 30 John Square, Westminster, London
BURGESS, Alice Sarah Ann, patient, married 28 years, 46, Rochester Kent

I suspect her husband may be in the 1911 census still living in Battersea at 51 Dashwood Road. However the name is Henry Samuel BURGESS and he is down as a widower. I still think this is him as there is a boarder Henry DEMPSEY in the household (same chap as in the 1901 census.) Also, there is a daughter Voilet (age 21) and two other children born after 1901, Henry Samuel (age 9) and Constance (age 5.) The birth place given for the children is Stewarts Road, Battersea. 1911: RG14/2170 SN386

As far as I'm aware it is now Strood although it may have been referred to as Stroud in the past. See here...

    www.
    british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=62879

BTW: I came across this information on John Watt RICE. First of all, John Watt RICE is in the 1911 census with his father Peter and Selina. They are still living in Strood.
    1911: RG14/3872 SN97

    His marriage ...

    Marriages Dec 1919 Strood 2a 1768
    Cork Alice M Rice
    Rice John W Cork

You can view the scan of the marriage on CityARK here.

There is this death which could be his...

    Deaths Dec 1925 Strood 2a 902
    Rice John W
    Age 51

Note: If you don't have them already, you may want to have a look through the Strood baptism registers on CityARK for the baptism records of Peter and Matilda's children. The exact dates can be found on Family Search, which will make locating them on CityARK much easier.

There are Army Service Records for Peter Thomas RICE born 1867 in St Margarets, Rochester, Kent. He attested to the Royal Engineers on 27 January 1885 and served for 12 years.

Note: His father's name and address is on image 3.

You can download his service records from the pay/subscription site findmypast.

I haven't figured this out yet but there was a marriage between a Peter Thomas Philip RICE and Emily Margaret TAYLOR in 1896 at Gillingham, Kent. You can view a scan of the marriage here on CityARK. Now, as well as the extra middle name, the father's name is also not quite right. However the occupation is Corporal in the RE and this is rather a coincidence as your Peter Thomas RICE was also a Corporal in the RE at this time.

The Peter who married Emily is in the 1901 census and it has New Zealand as his birth place, so I don't know. I believe Emily died in 1905 and their children are with her parents in 1911. I can't find her husband in 1911.

    1901: RG13; Piece: 738; Folio: 19; Page: 30

BTW: Do you have access to the census?

New Zealand Does not have household Census not like other countries. they do not record personal details. I think Peter Thomas Rice came over to New Zealand with his brother Alfred Peter Rice B/1876 ( My grandFather ) in 1901, dont know if he was married at that stage. or even if he made it to New Zealand, Alfred brought his Wife Harriet and there son Sidney John Rice ( my Dad ) to NZ.
