She died 7 May 1929. Probate granted on 03 August to Arthur James Evans, retired civil servant and Charles Henry Evans, civil servant. Her address was 58 Lyons St. Sheffield. Effects £468 15s 6d

To find the information you've asked for you would need to order the will. The calendar only names the executors who may or may not be beneficiaries and the effects only relate to personal effects and not property.

Thank you very much Graham. That's the lady I was after. She was my great great grandmother. She left her 2 son's in charge of sorting out her affairs, and one of them a Tax Man to-boot.

    Thank you again

Because it went to probate, does that mean there IS a will or just that there may be?

Just been reading the Will sticky and £6 seems very cheap for a will. Is that correct?

Yes, that is the price. It used to be just £5 but went up earlier this year. There was definitely a will so you won't have any problems getting a copy.

You've probably seen the website by now but in case you haven't details on how to apply and a downloadable application can be found here. The form you need is a PA1S

    Well that's very cheap.

    It says on the form

Probate details (if known) Grant type, Issuing Registry and grant issue date.

I now know the issue date 03 August 1929 but do I just leave the other 2 empty?

This is my first will aplication don'tcha know

All you need are the dates of death and probate and the name and address. The £6 is actually a search fee and for that they will search up to 4 years after the date of death (if you don't know the date probate was granted). The will is thrown in as part of the deal.

I assume that this doesn't apply in your case but you can have as many extra copies as you like for £1 each. It's useful if you have other relatives who might like a copy.
