Perhaps she died as a child? Or she was married and/or no longer a dependent at the date of the application? (I haven't backtracked to check her year of birth.)

As regards HMS Fisgard, you can follow Henry's movements nicely from here.

To get anything more for his career, I think you will need to check out the ships' musters at Kew.

The movements of the Fisguard are very interesting so looking up the ships' muster is a necessity.

I have just looked back through the thread and Sophia was born in 1805 but Jane was born in 1803 so either Sophia died before 1823 or was no longer a dependant as you suggest. I have noticed that William who died in infancy does not appear either.

I just googled HMS Fisgard and found the following on Wikipedia:

HMS Fisgard was a 44-gun fifth-rate frigate (originally named Résistance) captured from the French in 1797 and sold in 1814.

This seems to be the ship that Henry served on.

If I'm lucky, I might be able to order copies of the documents but as you say, I might have to go in person.

If Henry was listed as deceased on the application of Peter for the Greenwich naval hospital, this puts his date of death somewhere between 1816 and 1823.

The trouble is, I can't find any record for his death.

If he died at sea, where would his death be recorded?

Hi, everyone, particularly RobinC, and sorry to deviate a bit...

After years of intention I'm now actively trying to create my own family tree. The argument in my own family has been whether or not Damiral originated in France, but it's looking increasingly probable that going back far enough it's connected to Demerel in Turkey.

The key thing I'd like to know is the details of our arrival in England, but for now, my question is:

Is there an existing tree going back four or five generations anywhere to be found, or should I hop between all the genealogy sites and try to build it myself?

FYI, I'm from the progeny of John Sidney Damiral and Myra Kathleen Taylor.
