Default A most helpful and considerate family!

Harriet Giles married Richard Mutlow in 1852 in Cricklade and they went on to have 18 children and were married for 63 years by 1911 according to the census. Richard was 94 years by this point and probably unable to fill in the census which would explain why the length of marriage was out by 5 years.

Anyway, 8 of their 18 children had died by 1911 with a few who were born and died in between censuses, fortunately Richard & Harriet had the foresight to give all of their children the middle name of "Smith" for some reason (which I haven't quite worked out yet).

This helped me to locate the births and deaths of all 18 children.

Has anyone else had such helpful and considerate ancestors?

I live in hope of finding one such family.

At least, however, most of 'em did get their length of marriage correct in 1911 and and in one case they did name the children that had died prior to 1911, but didn't provide date of death, so had to do a bit of rummaging, but at least by checking previos censuses I was able to find the approriate record.

oh how lucky is that?! Mine not only named them differently by using any combination of three surnames but seemingly encouraged them to change their names with the seasons. We only discovered the total number of children last year and I have been chasing these darned actors since 1996!

One day I might just try and find the next generation back on the paternal side ~sigh~

    you lucky, lucky thing!

Harriet is my 1st cousin 5 times removed so not a direct ancestor but she was the niece of my 4 x Great Grandfather.

I just wish that any one of the 4 main blood lines (Crouch, Giles, Witherell & Pitcher) that I'm trying to follow could be just as easy!

I have just come across a family, who are again distantly related to me, on the 1911 census so cannot post the details on here but whoever completed the census sheet was a bit confused:

    RG number: RG14
    Piece: 11712
    Reference: RG14PN11712 RG78PN648 RD239 SD1 ED1 SN130

Not sure if any of the above reference contravenes forum policy so please can it be edited if it does.
