Hi jac65,
l am beginning to think much the same, l've tried all possibilites of names and still come up with nothing for a marriage. l think you're probably right l need to try establish which marriage was dissolved and the date.
l've never heard of anyone just changing their surname like that if they weren't married to them, l thought you had to change it by deed pole or something the way Mr King did to change his name to King-Deacon, but may be what she did for some reason.

Hi
I believe that you can call yourself by what ever name you like provided it is not for fraudulent reasons. Certainly, as a lot of us have found in our research, there are many examples of a woman adopting her 'husbands' surname even though they didn't actually marry.
As far as your problem is concerned it really depends as to when it was required to produce proof of ID when marrying, if you were in the 1960's then maybe they did marry somewhere other than England or Wales, or she formally changed her name. If she wasn't required to produce any ID then whatever she said would have been accepted particularly if that was the name she was known by.

Hi Andy
lt seems another thing l have to find out, l always thought you had to provide details of a divorce when you remarried but seems l'm wrong l think now. l haven't been able to find anything about her changing her name by deed pole or anything so maybe she just did take his surname for some reason.
Val.
