    Hello Lango,

    First some questions....

Where was he born? Do you have the birth certificate as that should name both of his parents and give you his Mum's maiden name.

Do you have the marriage certificate as that should give his Dad's name to tie in with the birth certificate. If not, I think that this is it, which can be ordered from the GRO: Liverpool District, June quarter 1916, volume 8b, page 177 has Ellen WILSON and John LEARY on the same page.

a copy of his marriage certificate would give his father's name which would help narrow the search and confirm that you are researching the correct John.
Did he have a middle name? There is a John G. LEARY born Liverpool at the end of 1890 (aged 5 months on Census).
25, Solon Street, West Derby, Liverpool (RG12/2994/33 Page 7)
John O. LEARY b. abt. 1859 occ: Packing Case Maker
    Elizabeth LEARY b. abt. 1863
    Margaret LEARY b. abt. 1888
    James LEARY b. abt. 1884
    Thomas LEARY b. abt. 1889
    John G. LEARY b. abt. 1889
Annie TRAINOR b. abt. 1875 occ: Servant

    all born Liverpool

there is also another possible John, born Manchester about 1889 (RG12/3244/58 Page 10)

By the way, please don't get too caught up on the spelling of LEARY - I notice that there are a number of LEAREYs registered in Liverpool as well. Spelling did not really settle down until the beginning of the 20th century so an open mind is needed.
