Perhaps her first husband was called Charles?

From 'India Births and Baptisms 1786-1947' on FamilySearch:
Charles Frederick Linion, son of Charles Linion & Sarah Jemimia, born 16 May 1876 and baptised 28 Feb. 1877, Madras.

From 'India Deaths & Burials 1719-1948' on FamilySearch
Charles Frederick Linion, son of Charles & Sarah, died 10 April 1877 aged 0 and was buried 11 April 1877, Madras.

His father was perhaps the Charles Linion, aged 37, who died 23 September 1876 and was buried the same day, Madras.

There are some army records (from WO 97 at The National Archives) on Findmypast for a Charles Linion, born about 1838 in Ramptee, Nagpur. They might be worth checking in case they have details of his marriage.

There is this death/burial record. For the name of the father, could they have entered his rank as a first name in error?

It's a pity but a wife is not mentioned. Still worth looking at of course and he appears to have had an interesting career (promotions/demotions.) He was discharged in 1875.

You will find army records for Charles Alfred on the pay/subscription site findmypast.

Alfred Charles GLASSFIELD born abt 1859 in Syderstone, Norfolk - attested to the Royal Artillery on 21 March 1878. His wife was recorded as Sarah Jemima Linnion(?) and his children are listed. His father is also mentioned.

    BTW: He was a gunner.

I am so sorry I have not been on for so long! My internet connection died and took it's time coming back to life. So, several workmen later, I am finally able to log back on. Thank you everyone for all your help! I think there is a lot to go on now, I have compiled the information for my friend Mark, and I hope he can make some further conclusions based on what ever documents he has. But thank you so much again, to everyone!
