Default Thomas Tegg b 1840 Basildon, Berkshire

I am trying to find ancestors of mine who were born in Basildon, Berkshire. There surname was Tegg.

Thomas Tegg b 1840 was the parish clerk at St Lawrence Church Tidmarsh for 30+ years. His father John b.about 1794 died in Tidmarsh 16.1.1868 aged 74 he is regestered on 1851 census as being born in Basildon however there are no records of him being there in 1794. Searches under the spelling "Teague" also has not revealed anything in Basildon. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction to locate confirmation of John Teggs birth it would be much appreciated.

On John Tegg and Hannah Mascal marriage 14.Feb 1820 certificate the winesses were a Lucy Lovegrove and a John Mascal they must have been related.

Can anyone advise what I should do next?

    Thanks

I am getting very confused here, don't take much for the 'ole Mut' but the Teggs that are connected to your Teggs also seem to be from Berkshire. Perhaps because Ancestry is trying to place Basildon into Berkshire instead of Essex!

Hannah Mascal was baptised at Binfield, Berkshire on 30 Aug 1802 to parents John and Sarah.

This may not help much but Ancestry, when asking about your John gives information about a Samuel Tegg.
    (Not sure why?)

Samuel was baptised in Bucklebury, Berkshire on 9 Mar 1794
Father's Name, Samuel Tegg and Mother's Name was Hannah.
Might he have been a brother to your John?

    Well you live and learn,

I should know by now, that in this hobby, one should not assume anything.

Thanks Kerrywood for the geography lesson.
Thanks Notanotherminer for moving the thread and changing the birthplace county
