I am looking for information about my direct ancestor Charles Harford Senior he had been born in Bristol in 1631 the only son born to Mark Harford of Marshfield, Gloucestershire who died when Charles was just one year old, Charles married twice firstly to Mary Bushe in Bristol on March 22nd 1656 and would have eight children, and then Eliza Cox in Bristol on 16 April 1671.
Charles would become a prominant Quaker in the Bristol area as were all his children and from what I have discovered know he was a soapmaker and soapboiler in Bristol.
I also know that in 1683 a letter written by William Penn a Quaker then in Pennsylvania reveales that Charles and his son Charles purchases between them at least two thousand acres of land along with a few other Quakers in Pennsylvania, and he is mentioned in a few books written during his lifetime by fellow Quakers and some lapsed Quakers including a man named George Keith, where Charles quizzes him at a meeting in Coopers-Hall, Bristol.
He had also owned some property in Bristol and from his beginnings as a soapmaker his sons would follow in his footsteps but go further and eventually become merchants and shop keepers, Charles Harford Sr died on December 6th 1700 in Bristol, If anyone knows anymore information about him or knows a good website or anything like that I would be very grateful thank you very much.

Kind Regards
Beth
