I am looking for a birth record for Mary Ann Leport born around 1st March 1844 ( I have the baptism record frrom Bethnal Green) but cannot find the birth record.

Hi Martin,

If I have the right baptism her surname has been transcribed as LEAFORT and I imagine it's a surname which has frequently been misheard or mistranscribed.

Is it possible she was born in Kent (I note she was baptised 8yrs after her birth).

The nearest birth record I can find is: Mary Ann Leppard, Sevenoaks Kent, Apr-Jun qrt 1844, 5/428

It is possible her parents' weren't married until 1852, in which case her birth was probably recorded in her mother's surname.

Daniel Leporte and Latitia[sic] Stewart, banns read at St Mary's Whitechapel on 27th Jun, 4th Jul and 11th Jul 1852.
