Been trying to 'get back' just one more generation and been stuck on a John and Ann Gidney (couldn't get more common names really) ... just today I came across a record of a marriage on FSearch of John Gidney and Ann Leverick ... thankfully several years down the line they called one of their sons Charles Leverick Gidney![]()

Excellent result!

Years back, I stumbled across a website that listed possible surnames as middle names and found my several times great grandmother listed: Mary Ann Dean CROSS. It turned out that her Mum, "a single woman"
, had included Mary Ann's father's surname when she was baptised. He was William DEAN.
Sady, I lost all trace of the website when my previous laptop turned its toes up.

Hugh Wallis had a useful site for tracking down middle names in the IGI
http://
freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/
(scroll down to "IGI Middle Name indexes")
I don't know how well it works these days.Peter Goodey
