    Hi again Lyn57

The surnames forum is only to post information on the names you are researching and is closed straight afterwards.

As you seem to be asking for specific information on these people I have moved your thread to our Cheshire Forum. In order that our members can assist can you please post as much information as you can about the couple such as year and place of birth.

Can you also tell us what you know about them already please so that we don't provide a lot of info that you might already have?

The Cubbins family appear pretty easy to track back through the census. What are you looking for? Don't want to duplicate anything you may already have.

    Hi Pam
Thanks for your response. We are trying to find out the father of Thomas Cubbins. Thomas Cubbins was the Grandfather of my mother in law. She is 84 now and wants to find out as much as she can about her ancestors to hand on to future generations. Don't really know where to start so any help would most appreciated.

There seems to be a marriage for a Thomas Cubbins in St. Nicholas Church Liverpool on 29 May 1881
Thomas was aged 20, a bachelor, a painter who lived in Clayton Street and his father was Robert, also a Painter.

Eliza Eccles was a 21 year old spinster, also of Clayton Street, with a father named George who was a Shoemaker.

The witnesses were James and Mary, possibly Clarke, hard to read the surname.

If you don't have any information at all, such as year of birth, it makes it very difficult to trace them back with any degree of accuracy. As you live in Birkenhead it should be easy for you to obtain the marriage certificate from the details given in #3. This will give you the name and occupation of both Thomas' and Eliza's fathers and should also show the ages of the couple at the time of their marriage.

I have found someone who may be Eliza in the 1891 census but there is no sign of Thomas. She is shown as a married woman, head of the house working as a housekeeper at RG12/2914/75/page 16 Crown Copyright TNA.

If Thomas was your mother-in-law's grandfather then she must surely know the names of Thomas and Eliza's children. As we have tried to point out we can do very little unless you can provide us with more information to go on.

Thankyou Mutley, we now have something to go on. That definitely appears to be the right marriage.

Disregard the census I gave for 1891. I looked under Eliza's maiden name.
