    Default New Zealand probate records

Good news! FamilySearch has started to add digital images of New Zealand probate records to its collection.

There's no surname index on FamilySearch, but apparently you can use an index at

    www.
    archway.archives.govt.nz

to find probate file numbers for particular people and then browse on FamilySearch for the files. The Archway site is down for maintenance at the moment, so I can't check how the system works. The documents I checked were all wills, some typed and some handwritten.

This is a work in progress ('This collection is being published as images become available.'). At present there are 53,329 images, the majority for Nelson (1850-1960) but with some material for
    Blenheim (1947-1956), Marlborough (1950-1951) and Napier (1872-1881).
