    Default LUGG/LUGGE in Devon

    Hello,

I have been researching Elizabeth LUGG who married William NEWBERY 14 Dec 1744 Chardstock, Devon. I have found her christening 10 Apr 1717 in Axminster. I was told by a fellow researcher she had a brother Solomon LUGGE born about 1717 Kilmington, Devon who died about 1719, a brother John LUGG born about 1720 in Kilmington, Devon and a brother Solomon LUGGE born about 1721 in Kilmington, Devon which he saw in the Parish Records for Kilmington. I looked in the extracted IGI and could find no LUGG in Kilmington. I did find a Solomon bp 14 Oct 1719 death 8 Nov 1719, a John RUGG bp 5 Mar 1720 d 8 Mar 1731 and Solomon bp 28 Jul 1721 all in Axminster with father William. I also found a Joan RUGG bp 10 Dec 1704 and Mary RUGG 10 Nov 1723 in Axminster with father William.

    Any help appreciated

    Thank you

As you are relying on transcripts of extracted records from the IGI, I would suggest that you contact the Devon Record Office and ask them to confirm what the actual surnames are. http://www.devon.gov.uk/record_office.htm

Yes I agree it is far better to get the information if possible from the local recods office. Although the IGI can be helpful. It is best not to rely on it. It can be open to mistranscriptions
