Hello Birdlip, thanks for your help, I looked in Family Search and found nothing about James Marsh, is he listed with father and mother I will have another look, I don't seem to have much luck. Edward being a Army Sergeant should be easy to find. Take care.

There is also a birth registration on FMP's Army Chaplains Birth Indices of an Elizabeth MARSH at Bengal in 1830 - could this perhaps be another sibling for James. There is also a birth registration at Madras in 1825 for Edward MARSH from the same source.

Edward MARSH snr appears on FMP's Military records. He was apparently born in Maidstone c1794 and enlisted in Madras in 1822. His Military Record can be seen on FMP using their pay per view facility.

This probably cutting it a bit fine for a marriage, given that son Edward was born at the end of September 1824, but there is a marriage on Family Search at Boughton Monchelsea (pretty close to Maidstone) on 12 July 1824 of an Edward MARSH & a Mary BASSETT. No, scrub that one, how about this marriage also on Family Search on 8 May 1822 at Bangalore, Madras of Edward MARSH & Mary RUSHTON - sounds more like it, doesn't it!

Janbooth and birdclip, How are you both? Found James Marsh birth date 29/1/1828 East India Register, the entry was interesting The lady of Lieut. Edward Marsh of a son. No mention of wife Mary. Apparently Edward Marsh was a Sergeant HM 54th Regt when his son Edward was buried in 1826. James Marsh's entry hasn't got a LDS film Ref, so I guess their is no point in searching their Web page. I may have to search in The British Library or the Nationalarchives Gov.uk I sometimes have trouble here in finding the right details on where to look. How would I search in the Maidstone Kent area? and FMP site. Hope that you both have a safe and good weekend.

    Regards, Janet

You can take out a pay per view subscription to FMP. Click on to "Search Records" box, then Armed Forces & Conflict, then Search all Military Records. Enter in the name of Edward MARSH and 1822 onwards in the date field, then British Army Service Records 1760-1915 and up will pop Edward MARSH born c1794, Maidstone Kent 54th Foot. Click on the view original images and up will come his service record (2 pages).

As for finding his baptismal record in Maidstone, I'm afraid I do not know that area at all. It might be a good idea to put a request on the Kent section of the Forum giving the details you have for Edward to see if any members with local knowledge can help in any way. Good luck

This is hard for me to search anything my computer has a slow memory and needs updating is their any other way to purchase these records. Thanking you once again you words are not enough for all the help you have given me.
