    Default Derby Parishes

    Hi,
I am trying to find a parish near to Derby in 1837. The writing is a bit unclear so I think it maybe Brickstone but haven't been able to find it via google. The letters between the B_ _ _ kstone are the unclear ones.

    Thank you
    Karen

Deferring to GENUKI, could it be Boylestone? The l & e together might look like a k.

    Hi Jan,

Don't think it is that as there is no 'y'. I have uploaded the document to photobucket but not sure how to link it to here.

    Hi Karen,

Have a read of this thread about using Photobucket and how to upload the document into your post on Brit-Gen.

My money's on Boylestone as well. Could the tail of the "y" have faded?

Family Search has entries for James Mycock (sic) in the 1851 & 1861 censuses both referring to birth in Boylestone.

    Hi Graham,

James was in the 95th Foot and stationed in India in 1861 (WorldWide Army Index 1861) so don't think James Mycock is the same man.

    Thank you

    Fair enough

I've just searched for "ston" on the Derbyshire parishes page and the only one which comes close to the shape of the second half of the word is Swarkestone - but it still looks more like Boylestone (possibly mis-spelled as Boyelstone)

    Thanks Graham.

James Maycock born 1837 has been my brickwall for years (have posted previously about his Army life). I did find his marriage on Familysearch. From his daughter's marriage in 1891 I can trace forward. It is James - his death and finding him and his parents on census. Yesterday, I thought eureka as I found his Army Service Record but it relates to his discharge from the Army in 1875 and his parish of birth is difficult to read as you can see from the above.

James married Margaret Jane Ferguson in 1864 in Fermoy, Co. Cork while stationed there. His father is William Maycock, Occupation: Bricklayer. In 1871, James is in Alverstoke, Hampshire with the 95th. His wife and two of his daughters have died in India.

There is a William Maycock and family on the 1841 census in Warwickshire: HO107/Piece:1153/Bk:5/Folio:50/Pg1. He is not born in County but his wife Hannah and children Samuel b.1827, Elizebth b.1829, James b.1836 and Henry b.1839. How could I prove that this is the right family?

Could it be Buckston, i.e. Buxton?
