I haven't looked for Emanuel for some time now as he had me baffled. I realise now there are avenues or oceans that may need to be explored to find the elusive Emanuel Twidle.
Emanuel does not appear on any official census or BMD records yet he is does appear on the parish records for Kingston Upon Hull having married Jane Martin on 2 July 1827. They had a daughter, Sarah Jane Twidle born a couple of years later in Drypool, Kingston Upon Hull and that's just about it as far as Emanuel and Jane are concerned. Emmanuel is recorded as Sarah Jane's father on her marriage registration but I can find no reference to him other than those. Sarah Jane is living with her (what looks like) maternal grandmother in both the 1841 and 1851 censuses and I can find no other children registered to the parents.
I once saw an apprentice record for an Emanuel Twidle, mother Elizabeth i the early 1800s. Apprenticeship was for ropemaker in Barton upon Humber and this occupation does match Sarah Jane's marriage record. Unfortunately, silly me didnt make a copy and it has since disappeared from the internet. I think it belongs to a university library. I am guessing that because Emanuel's mother was listed on the apprentice record that Emanuel would have been underage at the time which gives a rough idea of age.
I am wondering now whether a burial record for Jane Twidale 7 March 1834 might be Sarah Jane's mother and that Emanuel emigrated?
Any ideas or advice would be very much appreciated (other than keep better records of research - I already know mine have been shoddy)
Cheryl

There's a little more information on the burial record which can be viewed on the Lincs To The Past site.
www.
lincstothepast.com
First of all his abode was Hull. Secondly there's was a coroner's inquest as he was found drowned. See the South Ferriby Parish Records - Burials (1834-1835), page 18.
I'm not sure a direct link will work ...

This news item appeared in the York Herald & General Advertiser of Saturday 28 March 1835:
'SUICIDE. - On Saturday night, a young man, a sailor, said to belong to Hull, drowned himself in the lock-pit,
at Ferriby Sluice.'
From the date (which presumably was the previous Saturday, 21 March) and the place, this could be Emanuel.

That really is fantastic. I have registered with the Lincs site and had a look. I do believe this is probably the Emanuel Twidle I've been looking for. Thank you.

This does look related to Emanuel's death record. Thank you very much for your help. May I ask where you accessed the York Herald and General Advertiser site please?

Coromandel is offline. You can find this news item by searching the British Library's 19th Century British Newspapers collection made available online through the Gale database. You may be able to access this collection through your local library (if they have a subscription) or online from your home through a library membership.

In your shoes, I would be inclined to contact the Lincolnshire archives to ask if any if they have any surviving coroner's records for the date in question, bearing in mind that the chances are probably slim.
Information on coroner's record held by both the Lincolnshire and the North East Lincolnshire archives can found on the National Archives A2A site, but it's probably easier to contact one or both of these archives.
You could start with the North East Lincolnshire archives but someone on this forum with a better knowledge of South Ferriby, Hull and the Humberside area may be able to direct you better (especially since we are also dealing with the Yorkshire/Lincolnshire border.) In the meantime, contact information can be found
here.
