Default Harriet Knowlden -who did she marry?

I have a request this one may be a bit difficult as I am not sure of the surnames of these people. In the Brickenden Family tree that my grandmother`s cousin drew up for her he has names but no surnames and I can only guess they are Brickenden`s. He has a James ?? marrying a Harriet Knowlden daughter of Daniel Knowlden on 24 Dec 1843 Living at London Rd Canterbury. They have a son Edward Samuel, baptisted 8 Dec 1844 at St Dunstans, Canterbury. Edward marries a Fanny Andrews in 1868. Fanny buried 25 August 1886 at St Dunstans Canterbury. Edward died 1903. Edward & Fanny had 3 children, Edmund George(b 1869) Alfred (1870- 1871) and Emily (b 1872) all living in Canterbury. I am interested in finding more about this family and especially the Emily.
    Please can any one help?
    Regards

    Jenny

In reply to the question 'Who did Harriet Knowlden marry?' - on FreeBMD James Brickenden is indeed on the same page.

In 1891 Emily was a servant in Dover to the Fox family (RG12; 741; 60; 19) courtesy of TNA.

Emily must be the Emily D Brickenden who died in 1926 at Sheppey aged 49 (March quarter, 2a 1331). However, where on earth was she between 1891 and 1926?

Also, does the Emily May Brickenden who was born in Sheppey in 1900 have any connection? She married an Albert J P Charman in 1925, also in Sheppey.

Whoops! Sorry, Emily D (nee Smith) seems to be happily married to Frederick Brickenden with baby Emily M in 1901. So Emily D and Emily M are both wrong.

Thanks for the help. Could Emily have been a nun, is that the reason for her "disappearance" between 1891 and 1926? There is talk of a nun in the family?

I don`t have a Emily May Brickenden in family tree as yet... but Charles & Mary Louisa (nee Stevens) Brickenden had 16 children !!!

I was wondering if Emily emigrated - but there's no sign of her at all! If you do have a family story about a nun, then that might be the explanation.

An interesting question, Thomasin, to which I don't know the answer!

I tried putting in just 'Sister' as a first name in a 1911 census search and it brought up nearly 500 results. Many of these were in institutions. Some had no surnames, but are shown with religious names like 'Sister Mary Theresa' . Others do seem to be listed by their 'real' surnames.

The Catholic Family History Society has an index of nuns. For details of how to request look-ups see
