    Default FamilySearch.org Grrrrr

I hate the new site. On the old site you used to be able to search within a batch number for all of the children born to specific parents (thanks to Kerrywood for telling me that about 3 years ago!). When I tried that this morning on the old site I got automatically redirected to the new site and all I got was the complete list of ever baptism in the batch. What good it that to anyone? The old site was fine yesterday although down intermittently for maintenance - presumably while they broke it a bit more. Starting Saturday as a grumpy old woman.

All is not lost . . . you can refine the search quite easily on the new site.

After it has produced the list of all baptisms in the batch, click on 'New Search' at the top of the left-hand pane. You can then add in a surname and (after selecting 'Parents' in the 'Relationship' menu) parents' names.

('New Search' is a very misleading name, as really it is 'Refine Search'. It is very useful when you get the hang of it.)

I still hate it though Coromandel. I hate the way it returns information on a straightforward search unless I am being really thick. ON the old site you got a really handy list of potentials, together with the place and date. Now you just get a list of names and have to go into each one to see when and where within a county.

I take it you mean by “go into each one” as in click on the persons name and it takes you to that page?

Instead of clicking on their name, look to the far right and you will see a little black down arrow, click on this and it will give the details as in a “drop down”. This way you won’t have to go into that persons details and then come back out to check another.

You can just go down the list of names clicking all the arrows and hopefully get the info you are looking for.

Hope this helps but if you just hate it cause you just do, then I guess it won’t help at all

    Terry

I think I might have been a tad grumpy when posting that Terry Thanks for this but even thought I don't necessarily hate it on principle now (!) I still dont think it as a good as the old one.

thanks for trying the oil on troubled water effect. It worked alongside a weekend (short) with my Sis!

After all the times I've used it and didn't know about batch number search.

Thanks to both you and Kerrywood.

What goes around comes around. That was in the days before Kerrywood was a Super Mod and it is one of the most useful search tips I have ever collected. Onward and upward!!

I just thought I'd try a search through Hugh Wallis' IGI Batch numbers page, and the search box still comes up but the results are now missing. Shame, I used to use this all the time.

Ok, I've now found the thread about this.

I don't like the new search either.
