I have good news and bad news as the saying goes!
Searched and found the marriage of Mark Phillips of Preston and Frances Guard of the parish of St John Yeovil 3rd Apr 1793. Following Banns (I checked the banns and did not find them...) Mark signed, Frances made her mark.
Witnesses were Thomas Leach and John Bass.
Ref D/P/yeo.j 2/1/10
Next searched for the death of Mark.
Mark Phillips buried 30 Oct 1794
Ref. D/P/yeo.j 2/1/17
Found the marriage of William Allen to Frances Phillips on 31 May 1795, both of the Parish following Banns and both made a mark. Witnesses were Sarah ?Tolley and Elizabeth Bryant
Ref. D/P/yeo.j 2/1/10
In looking for the Baptism of Frances I found the following:-
Maria d/o Wm and Frances Allen 4th June 1796
Ann d/o Wm and Frances Allen 20th Jan 1798
Moses s/o Wm and Frances Allen 19th Jan 1800
Ref. D/P/yeo.j 2/1/4
I continued to search for Frances or any other children but drew a blank - that's the bad news.
On return home I tried the LDS website and found that Frances had apparently been baptised into the Non Conformist Church!
Maybe there are further offspring.
Hope that this is of some help. Will be going to the Heritage Centre in a couple of weeks if you would like me to try and find her in the NC register. Or if anyone else from the Forum is going they might like to help.

Wow! Thank you very much for doing all that research - it is very much appreciated - I will have to take it all and chew on it for a while - but, at first glance it does look as though Frances Gard was previously married - so i can take your information and go forward some more - so many many thanks for your hard work . Gosh this is a fascinating hobby - but it does get frustrating at times. Thanks again

From bmdregisters.co.uk (put www. in front) I see that the births of Frances, James and William Allen (in Somerset in 1803, 1805 and 1808, respectively; maternal grandparent Giles Gard) were recorded at the Protestant Dissenters' Registry in London. If you buy some credit from the site you will be able to view images of the register entries online.
