Hi everyone.
In this photo my grandfather is on the ground beside the drum. [left looking at the photo]
It would be really appreciated if someone could please recognise the band.
Any clues to his regiment would be welcomed.
I have no details of his service at all. Using an alias at the time might have made sense, but It sure is annoying looking for an "invisible' man. I have 1 other photo of him in his NAAFI uniform during WW2. Would that be helpful to post?

Hi Sulee, my OH who is quite good at this says the photo does not show the cap badge well enough to say definitively. Could be an Infantry regiment, probably WW1 but other than that not much else.

Thank you Sueann. I was afraid that this would be the case.
Would your OH have any idea why he has a strap across his chest and seems to have other "things" on his left shoulder that I don't see on the other soldiers.

I really am useless at identifying uniforms, but I would suspect the sash across his chest is for attaching the drum he is sitting beside - hence he was the band's drummer.
Best wishes

There seems to be a variety of cap badges. The Leather strap may not be for the drum but instead a bandolier worn by infantry. Also he is wearing a Lanyard on his left shoulder as worn by Service Corps and other Corps type units.
it seems strange that they are all in different units. I suppose it could be a batallion band cobbled together from various units.

Thank you both for your answers.
Please excuse my ignorance but what are service corps and corps type units?
In the other photo I posted it also shows a strap of some kind on his left shoulder.

Army Service Corps provided drivers etc, Medical Corps provided doctors, nurses etc, Ordnanace corps provided supplies and ammunition etc, so the Corps are non infantry or mounted units. As I said the strap may be a lanyard (think it is spelled this way) which is also worn by Corps and usually in different colours depending on the Corps.
