Default Boilersmith / Railway Engine Tuber

    Hi Folks

I am reserching a Watson family of March in Cambridgeshire. In the 1901 Census Henry Watson is described as a Boilermakers Assistant in the 1911 Census he is still at the same address of 9 Hutchinsons Row in March he is described as a Railway Engine Tuber and on the marriage certificate of his son in 1917 he is described as a Boilersmith.

Does anyone know if these occupations are related, and how I could find out more about an employee working for the railways.

    many thanks

    Richard

    Hi Richard

If it helps this is what wikipedia has to say about a boilermaker:

A boilermaker is a trained craftsman who produces steel fabrications from plates and sections. The name originated from craftsmen who would fabricate boilers, but they may work on projects as diverse as bridges to blast furnaces to the construction of mining equipment.

Bear in mind that he was working on steam engines which incorporated a form of boiler in order to heat the water.

There's a bit more about "tubing" in the same wikipedia article
