There was no workhouse in Illogan itself.
The workhouse which was 'local' to Illogan was in Redruth. http://www.

Unions and Registration Districts were the same thing in those days. You probably already know the registration district from BMD certificates and census returns. Redruth Registration District = Redruth Union. You can also work out which Union it was from these tables of registration districts -

If you need to know the exact location of the workhouse, you can use the site that Pam mentioned.

    Hello Lyn.
As noted earlier, it was known as the Union Workhouse and it was actually located in Redruth. My 2nd Gt-Grandfather had the misfortune to die there of Bright's Disease on August 20, 1869. He was 60 years old. He formerly worked as an agricultural labourer.

How he managed to contract this illness is a bit of a mystery, but he was very ill and hadn't worked after the death of his wife in 1867.

    Hi Meggle,

I have moved your thread from acronyms and abbreviations to institutions.

    Hello,

Thankyou for your information, My GG Grandfather also died of Brights Disease, in Victoria, Australia, I think the disease may have something to do with the kidneys?

    Hi Meggle,
I presume you're referring to the address for the Redruth workhouse I posted in #2.

The AUP (Acceptable User Policy) which is quoted at the top of every subforum forbids a direct link to any commercial site or any site which asks for donations. (See 'Links' in post #1 of the AUP.)
We therefore split the URL for these sites into the http:// and/or www. section, and then the remaining section.
Although I hasten to add that Brit-Gen is free, if it wasn't this would result in the URL for the forums being given
    in a post as
    http://www.
    british-genealogy.com/forums/forum.php
    instead of
    http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/forum.php
This means that you can copy-and-paste the main part of the address, and then scroll to the front of the address and add http:// or www. as necessary.

    Pam
