In preparation for my imminent visit to Carlisle, I had an idea that I would try to visit the street, and try to find a house which was a key feature in my family's life in Carlisle - 22 Duke Street. I had a look on Google Street, to try to see the house, It would appear that most of the old houses had gone, and the street generally consisted of modern houses.
Does anyone know if I might be able to find street pictures of Duke Street
Thanks

I have just had a look on the Francis Frith website but, apart from an internal shot of the cathedral in the 1860s, the earliest couple of photographs are of the Market Place in 1937.
Have you contacted the Cumbria Family History Society at all to see if they are able to help?

Google books shows the publication of a book entitled Duke Street, Carlisle, a street of handloom weavers, written by Jeremy Godwin and published by The Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society, 1988.

I would be very surprised if the book didn't contain illustrations of the street.
