I am trying to find the parents and ancestry of my 2nd. great grandfather, John Jenkinson (AKA Jinkinson) who according to the 1841 and 1851 censuses was born abt. 1800 or 1801at Nocton Lincolnshire, In 1827 he married Mary Staples at Thorney in Nottinghamshire and then went to live in Saxilby Lincolnshire where his 1st. child Martha was born in 1827. John would appear also to have had a child, by a lady called Sarah, baptised as Isabella Jenkinson Jenkinson in 1823 at Thorney, Nottinghamshire. John then lived at Saxilby with his wife Mary and children until his death in 1861, his wife survived him until 1886. I have discovered a William Jenkinson, bapt. 1799 at Saxilby to a John Jenkinson and Susanna, this is possibly a brother of my John Jenkinson, but I have found no no other earlier generations at either Nocton, or Saxilby. But a Thomas Jenkinson married an Elizabeth Parkin at Thorney in 1824. There was also a marriage of a John Jenkinson to a Sarah Schofield in 1816 at Ordsall near Retford Nottinghamshire. But if these are the parents of Isabella, then this John is unlikely to be my John as he would only have been aged 15 or 16 at the time of his marriage. In any case Isabella’s marriage to Henry Taylor in 1848, took place at Saxilby, where her father is given as John Jenkinson and one of the witnesses as Mary Jenkinson (Johns wife?). There are numerous John Jenkinsons in this Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire area, ranging from Gainsborough in the North down to Grantham in the South, with others featuring in South Yorkshire, but none seem to fit in with my John Jenkinson. Can anyone therefore throw some light on my problem. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi John
Have you looked through the Nocton baptism registers? I see the images are on the Lincs to the past site
www.
lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=597703&iid=380056
Looking through the images, there appears to be a gap between 1798 and 1803. They also appear to be in quite poor condition and difficult to read. Note: I haven't checked around this gap for any other Jenkinson entries and I haven't looked at all the pages yet to see if any are out of date order.
Saxilby parish registers are also viewable on the site.

According to Hugh Wallis the parish registers appear to be contained in Batch No C030464. A browse through the available records on Family Search shows an identical gap to the one described by Olliecat.

Hi there,
Many thanks for the feedback.
Yes I have had a look at the Nocton archive and like you find them very difficult to read, but I have plowed thriugh them and cannot find any Jenkinsons, but there are gaps and I have not been able to find those pages covered elsewhere, but will need to make a more careful search later.
Regards,
John

Hi again,
Have also checked out the Saxilby site, but other than the William Jenkinson already mentioned, I can't seem to find any others.
This site at first seemed even more difficult to read than Noctons, until I found for some reason the image sharpener wasn't working, a reload of the site corrected that fault.
Regards,
John

John Jenkinson/Jinkinson
Hi Everyone,
Thread Update.
Since posting this thread I have carried out further research of my own. The result is that by widening my search to include more variations on the name Jenkinson, I have discovered that there were several christening records in Nocton for the names Jenks and Jenkins. This included a record for a John Jenks, 1800 and an Edward Jenkins, 1803. John is almost certainly my John Jenkinson and Edward can be found later in the 1841 and 1851 censuses as Edward Jenkinson, other members of the family include Ann and Elizabeth Jenkins and Robert and Joseph Jenks, all born between 1806 and 1810 at Nocton. Edward moved a short way away to Broxholme where he was married. All these children give John (Jenks/Jenkins) and Susannah as their parents, so it looks like William Jenkinson b. 1799 at Saxilby is also theirs as I originally thought. John and Susannah presumably lived at Saxilby before moving to Nocton. However I cannot find a Thomas Jenkinson who like John was married at Thorney, he and his wife and children later moved to the next door village of Newton on Trent. This at least now clears up Johns parentage, but I am afraid I can shed no further light on either their dates or their ancestry.
Regards,
