Spelling of names can be very inconsistent: anything that sounds like the name you're after could be the right one. Remember that illiteracy was widespread until the late nineteenth century. Many people would have had no idea how to spell their names, so it was left to the minister or parish clerk to write down something resembling what they thought they'd heard.

England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 on FamilySearch has baptisms of several children of Samuel & Sarah Ashbolt at Wootton, among them the James Ashbolt mentioned by Josie. It also has this one:

Elizabeth daughter of Samuel Ashpole or Ashbole and Sarah, baptised 5 Dec 1813 Wootton, Bedfordshire.

This would suggest to me that Ashpole, Ashbole and Ashbolt are all different attempts at recording the same name. So Josie's James Ashbolt (post no. 2) could indeed be your James Ashpole.

I would agree that you should consider this baptism. From FreeREG, Samuel ASHBOLT married Sarah ROBINSON in 1806 and they had a number of children in Wootton. As pointed out, the christening of Elizabeth Ashpole/Ashbole in 1813 is interesting.

You will find a number of other children christened as ASHBOLT on FreeREG as well as a number of burials, however if you look for marriages for the children later on in Wooton, there appear to be none where the surname is ASHBOLT but there are some where the surname is ASHPOLE.

For example, Samuel ASHBOLT christened on 14 Jan 1816. Could this be his marriage?
