Searching the background of Philip who as a 'Carter' aged 16 in TAUNTON was Convicted at the SOMERSET - ASSIZE 1 APR 1825 and Sentenced to Life with Transportation to Australia, landing there from the Marquis of Hastings on 3 JAN 1926, We have the just these dates and a general follow up of his life after landing. The Court-Papers are being sought currently but, any advice/information re. his Somerset origins would be much appreciated to enable closure for my Australian Cousin, his GGGrand- Daughter. Thanks!

I've replied briefly about this on your other thread.
You need to start with data from the Australian end, if you can, and work backwards.
If he is the Philip GOULD who married Jane ANDREWS in 1851, does his marriage certificate mention a father?
If he is the Philip GOULD who died in Sydney in 1880, does his death certificate add anything useful?
Was there a death notice published in any Australian newspaper that might help?

There is a tree on the subscription site Ancestry which has his father as Thomas GOULD and his mother as Frances (no source stated). If this tree is not yours, you could try contacting the tree-owner to ask where they got this information.

I suspect that comes from a baptism record for a Philip GOULD on 30 Dec 1803 at St Mary Le Bow, London. Parents Thomas GOULD and Frances.
The above parents names don't match with the parent's names on the 1880 death certificate for Philip GOULD, although death certificates are not always accurate.

Thanking informants on behalf of Cousin, we have just finished a fortnight's actual tour of OZ States involved, searched/found much on Austrailian side inc. Grave-Yards all tying up neatly quite a bit, yet to be absorbed/digested. Alongside we have the Court-Papers etc., leaving only that origin itself. A link has been made with a possible GOULD Line here (UK) and now verifying but, not too strong so far. His Parents are now seen as Philip & Sarah GOULD of TAUNTON and no other Issue involved with possible dates of 1778? Any other avenues still acceptable for us.
