    There is a name Thirza.
However, the little girl was three days old at the time of the census, and I thnk you find that she turns out to be the Alice Eliza registered Mitford district June quarter 1871, and shown as plain Alice in the 1881 census.

Whether the parents had originally said Eliza and the enumerator couldn't read what had been written, or whether the parents originally said Thirza and then changed their minds we are unlikely to ever know.

It's Thirza, according to FMP - and the image looks like it too.

    Hi Pam

Well it could easily be Alice Eliza as i have the information on her and she was born the same time as this *Therya* As i cannot find any Therya on any census

The Baptism Register entry for Alice Eliza is here: http://tinyurl.com/5s97jzb

If you go back from here you'll see other baptisms for William & Eliza from 1866.

It doesn't say 'Therya'. It says 'Thirza', which is what she was at three days old.

This happened with one of my lot. A baby girl was called Mary J on the 1881 census, and in 1891 she was Edith Mary.
