    Default Found Grandfather

After 10 years I have finally found some positive proof that he existed! I cannot find my original posts, but he was a seaman/fisherman out of Grimsby 100+ years ago. I took a gamble and applied to Fleet Air Arm for WW1 records that I thought may be his (after a lot of research) and it is him Ultimate proof was the address given, being the same as that on my Uncle's birth cert in the same year.
Not only that I now have the names of my Great Grandparents, which were also on the documents

The search into the next generation start now and you may be hearing from me soon as this doesn't look straight forward either!

    Many thanks
    Buddy

Well so much for that idea! Tried to apply for Grandfather's b/cert using parent names as given in war record and had money refunded as there was no match for dates and names given (Edward and Alice 1875-1877 Oldham) So back to the drawing board. Now looking for his Certificate of Competency which apparently should have helpful details on it. I have the number as given on the WW1 record: 6852 ii Hol date of issue 16/04/01. Please would you advise on how to obtain a copy.
    Thanks as always Buddy

    Hello Mona
I have bought the brith cert mentioned in your post, and father is Edwin, mother Alice, DOB 31 Jan 1877.
Haven't found them on an 1871 census with the 2 oldest children, even though the 1881 census family above looks very likely, Edwin possibly having died in 1879. They are really giving me the run around!

The certificate will confirm. Is this the one that you are thinking about?

Hi Bud... what was the occupation of Edwin (edward?) on Charles' birth certificate, it may help us find him in the census.
Also, there is some information on the marriage I mentioned above, from familysearch:
Father of Edward JACKSON was John, father of Alice GATTERICK was William. His age was given as 21, hers 19. This was 16 Sep 1866 at St. Mary's, Oldham.
    Might help track them down.
