Default St Nicholas Church Great Yarmouth

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a 'grid' for graves in the churchyard.
My great grandmother (1919)& great aunt (1949) are buried there. I recently made a trip to the cemetery with an aunt who had an idea where the grave was, but there was no gravestone there anymore. I did approch the Council and was told to search for a grave would cost £23 , and I could get a grid when I had paid for a search.
I do remember in the late 40s going with my mum & sister to put our bridesmaid bouquets on the grave.
You'll gather that I do not live in Yarmouth.

Or is there a cd for burials at Yarmouth. I do have one for the Welford Rd cemetery in Leicester?

According to the genealogy link on the Great Yarmouth site transcriptions of monumental inscriptions including many headstones that have since been cleared away, are available at the library. It's possible they may have a map of the cemetery too.

    Hi loobyloo
How Frustrating! I was in Yarmouth last week and asked at Caister library and they directed me to the Town Hall.I was in the main library using the computer with my aunt looking for something for her & just didn't think to ask.
So back to the drawing board.
I will try phoning the Norwich Records Office to see if they have the info & will send it on, or another flying visit to Yarmouth in the near future.
    Thanks for that!

    Hi Iced Gem

Thanks so much for the telephone number. I have it on my personal email address. I will give the person a call and see if they can help.

I know some churches have 'friends' of the cemetery who can help out. I got a lot of info from 2 of the Leicester cemeteries through 'friends'. Great groups of people who spend their time caring for the graves etc.

Thanks again. i will let you know how I get on.

    Hi Iced Gem

    Iced Gem
No luck with the contacts you gave me. One referred me to the other, and they just told me I need to get in touch with the council. But thanks for trying.
I am surprised that there isn't a 'Freinds of St Nicholas cemetery'. I got a lot of help form a couple of cemeteries in Leicester from people who try & maintain the cemeteries and have access to these records.
Ah well! Do I spend £23 to find an unmarked grave?
