I have an ancestor whom I believe was I believe active in the civil war. He came from Worfield near Bridgnorth and I was wondering where I could get more information from and if there was any literature that would give some idea of the life of the average person/

Although the next county north of Shropshire, I wonder if "The Impact of Civil War on a Community: Northenden and Etchells in Cheshire 1642-1660" would be able to help.
There is also "The English Civil War" as well as "The Cromwellian Gazetteer: An Illustrated Guide to Britain in the Civil War and Commonwealth"

A couple of books:
John Adair's By the sword divided: eyewitness accounts of the English Civil War, seems to be recommended in a lot of places.
Much of Charles Carlton's Going to the wars: the experience of the British Civil Wars, 1638-1651 is on Google Books.

Cromwell's Army, by C.H.Firth (first published 1902, but reprinted many, many times) is still a good read. It covers topics such as arms, medical care, religion in the army, politics in the army, clothing and discipline.
