Sunday, we had the misfortune to suffer a significant water damage loss. Tuesday, we had a 2nd one, even worse than the 1st. These events were the only times we've needed our insurer's involvement in 23 years in our home
We notified the insurers who very promptly despatched clean-up crews. They tore up floors, tore down ceilngs and were back on a daily basis to check on how things were going. Today, they discovered there was more damage in the kitchen area than initially anticpiated, so now more tear out is required.
My insurance adjuster was due here at 10.00am He showed up at 11.45. He was a youngish chap - under 40 - who had previously been told that I was deaf and if I had problems with his questions to write them down. This he had no intention of doing. He also lectured me on what 'contents insurance' was and what I expected his employer to pay.
From his attitude to me today, I feel more like a 'suspect' than a 'victim'.
As a person [me] who has 40 years prior to my retirement, experience in the insurance industry, he made me feel that I wanted to curl up under a stone and not waste his time.
Is this attitude of insurers common?

I do not know Colin - never had to make a claim BUT write to the insurers and complain loudly.
State the facts, his lateness, his disregard for your disability and his downright lack of common curtesy and emphasise the hurt and distress that this one individual has caused you.
Finally do not let this ignorant person get to you - you are a far better individual than he is - just make sure that you claim every single penny that you possibly can, after all that is what you buy insurance for.

I totally agree with pennydog. Complain. Politely but firmly request another adjuster. You have paid for this and they owe you at the VERY least courtesy and value-for-money. What you have received so far was not it!

Colin
Thinking of you but I agree with previous comments, complain loudly and don't stop hassling them until they get things sorted.
They say things happen in 3's, well I would say you've had more than your 3's this year - it can only get better honest.
Take care

Hi Colin,
I have a son (now 18yo) who is partially deaf and the people who try to take advantage of him is just,,,,amazing.
When he was 16yo he had to apply for "youth/school allowance" that was paid to kids 16yo attending school here in Australia.
I went with him and explained..."No worries" said the young man taking details.
My son never got paid because 'he filled in the wrong forms'....which were actually filled in the the 'young man' assisting my son.
I am listed as my sons contact (as he only just learnt to use a phone late last year) BUT ppl still ring and and ask to speak to my son saying they need his permission to speak to me,,BUT if he cannot hear them on the phone HOW can he give permission???
My son gets to the point he just knods at everyone.
He cannot hear all the words,,,,just a few usually...so he just knods and hopes they go away....LOL
I understand your frustration as I watch my son go through it all the time.

Don't stand for it. I'd be saying to this company "Bloody Hell" I'm the customer here and your employes should be treating me with some RESPECT, and after they have paid out for your loss go somewhere else. This bloke is a jumped up little A*** and tell every one about them.
God help people that get my back up........ too many people these days can't be bothered, I always give thanks and praise when someone is helpfull but never take rudness sitting down.
as they say it can only get better hope it dose soon for you...
