Even more amusing I've just opened this thread, as its showing 5 replies but 0 views. How do you have someone reply to a thread without it being viewed first, or do we have gremlins lol!!

Presumably (because of Winnifred in 1871) this is the family in 1861. (Winefred's [sic] birth registered Wandsworth registration district September quarter 1858)

    RG9/368 folio 310 page 13
    50 Crescent Road Clapham

Peter WELCH, head, mar, 42 labourer bricklayer, Ireland
    Marger, wife, 33, Ireland
    Marger, daur, 10, Middlesex Chelsea
    Wineford, daur, 3, Surrey Clapham

But, and this is a very big but, if these are direct ancestors then I would advise you to get the birth certificate for Patrick to confirm his mother's maiden name.
There's a Peter and Mary, and a Peter and Margaret, both hanging around London in 1851 and 1861, and it would seem to me that it should be Peter and Mary who are the parents of Winifred-of-the-variant-spellings. i.e. It's wrong to assume that 'Marger' should be Margaret; more likely an enumerator mistranscription of Mary.
Patrick's birth registration June quarter 1861 Wandsworth registration district

Many thanks to everyone for such a brilliant response, and no I hadn't looked for them outside of Durham. Will order the birth certificate for Patrick, cheers all from ladygene.
