    Default George Freeman. occ: Seaman

    Trying to find parents/birth details of George Freeman, occ: Seaman, born Whitehaven Cumberland abt 1829.
    1861 marriage provided these details above.
    Listed on NSW Australia unassisted immigrant list 1826-1922 as a crew member of
    ship "Chimboras" ex London arr Sydney Aug 1880.
    Crew list indicates he was an AB, aged 49 years born Cumblard.
    Can anyone help me.

    Hi Barry, Is your George Freeman the chap who married Susannah Tansley in 1863 & was a rigger b Whitehaven c 1831 in 1871 census living Poplar with 2 chidlren? Father John (deceased)

    or
    maybe a marriage to Susannah Stutchbury at St.Dunstan- Stepney in 1861 father George?
    Both listed as mariners.
    If neither can you give any clues from marriage that you have please ?

    Hi Waitabit,
    Yes George freeman married Susannah Stutcbury at Stepney Middlesex on 24 Aug 1861.
    His father was shown as George occ: Clothier.
    Trying to find mother's name and birth in Cumberland.

    Sadly Barry it's proving difficult to even find his parents before 1871. Baptisms not showing either, unless it all happened elsewhere & he remembers Whitehaven as his first place of being. His Father may well have had another trade before 1861 which doesn't help.
    Likewise we don't know how long George jnr was a mariner.

    I've even found the marriage of Susannahs Parents ,John & his Father were lightermen, hers a tailor, A search of Parish regs may find the mariage of Georges' Parents.

    Found in 1861 a George Freeman, Tailor but he was from Lincoln.Similarly in 1851 a George 23..a tailor journeyman but from I[ston ,Staff'd. So no working for the inlaws
    .
    Perhaps the early years for George were spent at sea, which means searching shipping logs.Not too easy in the early years.
