Default Alderman William Plummer -2 x Master Mariners

Hi, I'm chasing a father and son, both named Alderman William Plummer and both master mariners.

The elder b. abt Jan 1797 marries Eliz Moore/More at Stratford Le Bow August 1824. Have found 4 sons thru baptisms and then a marriage of the 5th, the 2nd Alderman Wm Plummer in 1851, Tower Hamlets which gives the same parents.

However these are the only references I can find for both mariners. The mother Elizabeth immigrates to Australia 1840 (as Plomer) with 4 of the sons and remarries there in 1841. I've followed these families down to the present BUT the 2 sea-goers have defeated me.

And direction as to where I might search for the mariners is most welcome. Regards Heather

    Hi Heather
To search Find My Past will find a Alderman William Plummer baptism in Limehouse. (Tower Hamlet)
This might be one that is in between your two.
Also some possible later ancestors with military service and a few prisoners of war.

    Hi
What a great post. Why did Elizabeth go to Aus and remarry so quickly?
Was she a widow when she left England?
    Thank you.

They do seem to be remarkably elusive in census records, don't they. Alderman jnr is definitely not at 60 Lucas Street in the 1851 census nor is his wife to be Mary O'BRIAN but it does seem to be an address where lots of people connected with the sea are living, both at number 60 and 60a. Have you managed to trace Alderman snr back at all? There does seem to be a tenuous link in that the witnesses at his wedding to Eliz. are a James & Eleanor SHEPHERD and there is a marriage (via Ancestry London Parish records) of an Eleanor PLUMMER to a James SHEPHERD on 7 April 1817 at St Botolph Bishopgate, witnesses Joseph SHEPHERD & Elizabeth PLUMMER. Following that back there are the baptisms of twins Eleanor & Elizabeth PLUMMER on 19 August 1783 at St Dunstan Stepney daughters of Doctor PLUMMER, Ratcliffe, Sawyer, St Mary, aged 22 days.

This isn't what you asked for, I know, but perhaps gives you a little more info.

Plenty of recent stuff to explore if you google Alderman Plummer.
Some is yours and some you may not have seen.
Looks like AWP b1797 may have had siblings that went to the US.

I forgot to add this last night,:
In 1889 a passenger-Name, Plummer A W.- boarded in Columbo, the ship "Cuzco" out of Liverpool to Sydney. He was listed as a Labourer.

Richard, Thank you. I will check that baptism and the other avenues you mention. I'd found the other refs on Ancestry and then hit the wall. Cheers Heather.

Hi Georgiep, Wish we knew. Elizabeth seems to have scored an assisted passage to NSW in 1841 - as 35yo house servant with 4 sons named and aged. One contact thinks she was following husband (AWP) but doubt she'd be given assisted passage in that case. And this contact believes the assistance was later reneged. She sought and failed to find husband's Will in NSW. He thinks AWP was shipwrecked off Andaman islands. Many thanks, Heather PS What was the photo. I only see code. I have seen their London marriage via Ancestry sub.

Whatever, she married a widowed Irish chap in Sydney 1842. I'm waiting on her death cert. in the hope she has been forthcoming about her situation.
