Hi
Some new info - now have marriage cert for Francis and Agnes - his second wife - also death certs for Francis and Mary Ann - his first wife.
Taking things in order
Mary Ann died 2 July 1888 aged 36 years wife of Francis Thompson gunner Royal Artillery at 7 Middle street tynemouth from Acute pneumonia phthisis 1 month which I think is TB or very similar if wikipedia is correct.
Francis then married agnes ann morgan a 30 year old widow on April 4th 1889 in the parish church of tynemouth priory while he was living in the Spanish battery (gun emplacement overlooking the mouth of the tyne - not sure why its called that) and she was living at 34 Middle street. Fathers were shown as Francis Thompson for Francis whereas we have Samuel from his attestation papers and Christopher Crooke for Agnes Ann.
I have ordered a copy of Francis Thompson marriage cert for his first marriage to Mary Ann from the GRO but don't expect to have it until late August, as and when I do I will post details and may then go for a copy of his birth cert.
Finally we have the death of Francis Thompson on 2 December 1893 at 2 Orton Court, Front Street Tynemouth - he was a grocers warehouseman and army pensioner at that time. Cause of death was an aneurism of aorta innominate artery (post mortem) - according to wikipedia this is one of the ways in which third level syphilis manifests iteslf between 10 and 30 years after intitial infection and he was treated three times for this while in gibraltar beginning in 1874.
Still haven't managed to find any of them in the 1891 census, any takers?
Thanks again for all the help i have recieved from so many of you.
Kind regards
Bob t

Hello Bob
1891 still cannot find, however the family were in Olivers Court Upper Cross Street in the 2 subsequent returns, wondering if this has not been transcribed in 1891

I checked the 1891 census for Orton Court, just in case (RG 12/4229, f.138, p.40). It is listed immediately after the Durham Light Infantry Barracks at Tynemouth Castle. Only two houses are shown in Orton Court, but one is number 1 and the other number 6. No sign of any uninhabited buildings so I don't know what has happened to numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5.
No. 1 and 6 Orton Court are both subdivided, with two households in no. 1 (just one room each) and three households in no. 6 (two of them with just a room each). It may be a coincidence, but there is a Margaret A. Thompson in part of no. 1 Orton Court. She was a 62 year old widow, laundress, born Newcastle upon Tyne.
There are census returns for Olivers Court (RG 12/4229, ff.127-8) but I can't see Francis and family there.
