I've been stuck on this person for a couple of years. So I'd thought I'd stop lurking and try posting
James Mortimer
Occupation: Journeyman hatter
Birth: between 1800 and 1804 in Plymouth
Death: March 1873 in Keynsham, Gloucestershire
Married: Mary Ann Loveless / Lovelace (her parents are John and Dinah)
31 Aug 1834 in Bitton, Gloucestershire
Children
Elizabeth 1838
Phillip 1839
James 1841
Mary Ann 1843
I cant find any information at all as to who his parents were.
I did wonder if had left an Elizabeth in Devon but I can find no link. I ordered the following but no indication of where that particular James had got to:
723/74 Removal order: Elizabeth Mortimer, wife of James Mortimer, Brixton to Plympton St. Mary 10 June 1832

Thanks Raffaele & valg.
Raffaele - unfortunately hes not mine as hes in Ermington in the 1861 census. While mine is in Bitton.
valg - I did discount James Weeks Mortimer a few years ago as I think I also found him on the 1861 census but I dont have Ancestry anymore so now I'm not 100% sure. Someone else has got stuck coming the other way so maybe I was wrong and it is James Weeks.
.
I also know my James was literate as he signed his marriage register.
