Hello again to all the BG Forum Members
Please may I ask if you could kindly help me to locate further Occupational information on a John McCarthy, registered as an Excise Officer in the 1881 Scotland Census and as a 1st Class Officer, Inland Revenue Department, in the 1901 Scotland Census?
John McCarthy was born in Cork, Ireland in 1852, father's name Dennis McCarthy.
John McCarthy died in Glasgow in 1916 aged 64 years old.
I would be most grateful if any Member could help me access/locate work records pertaining to John McCarthy.
Kind regards always for your support.

This link to NAS may help with his excise career:

You might need to make separate enquiries for his time in the Inland Revenue. (It looks to me as though he might have switched from one Govt department to another).

The Civil Service Evidence of age will be worth searching.
There are a few documents for a John McCarthy born 23 March 1952 in Bandon. Cork.
Also a John William McCarthy born 19th September 1854 in Kilworth. Cork
You can also find these on Find My Past
