Does anyone know of the above couple or have them in their family tree. They met early around 1901 and have five children, Gwendoline May Burns, Olive May Burns, Eva Burns, Vera and Mary Burns. May died in 1921 age 38 and was living with William in Ashburton Road, Blackpool at the time. May was the daughter of Margaret Saunders Jessop who lived in Hull.
I am trying to find out about May and her life from 1900 onwards. Can anyone help?

Have you seen the 1911 census? From the free index it appears that May Burns, and Gwendoline, were in the same household as Wilfred and Margaret Saunders Jessop in the Hull district. To see full details you would need to get some credit with Findmypast.
FreeBMD has matching marriage entries for Wilfred JESSOP and Margaret Saunders ROBERTS in the first quarter of 1893, in the Wakefield district.
Do you have birth certificates for any of the children, or more information about their dates/places of birth?

Margaret Saunders Jessop started out as Margaret Saunders Roberts, marrying Wilfred Jessop in 1893. Her daughter May was born in 1882/1883. The only possible birth on FreeBMD is that of May Isabel Roberts, September quarter 1883.
I haven't found a marriage between William Burns and May, using Roberts or Jessop as a surname.Sadly, our dear friend Dorothy (alias Thomasin) passed away on Sunday, 17th. February, 2013.

In 1901, May appears to be May Bradley (right birth year, right birthplace), married, with 1 year old Margaret G Bradley - again in the same house as Wilfred and Margaret Jessop.
This daughter would be the Maggie Bradley, aged 11, in the house in 1911.Last edited by Thomasin; 15-05-2011 at 8:50 PM. Reason: added Maggie

From this old thread, I see that you already have the marriage certificate of Margaret Saunders Roberts and Wilfred Jessop, and that Margaret was a spinster at the time. What does it say about Margaret's father's name?
Could she be the Margaret Sanders Roberts whose birth was registered in the Wrexham district in the first quarter of 1861?

Yes this is correct, May had met another chap by then, William Burns, I don't think they were married but she took his name and had further children, her first two by Bradley were reared by family members and it appears that the Burns children never new of their older half sisters.

From FreeBMD, the birth of Margaret Sanders Roberts [note the spelling of her middle name] was registered in the March quarter of 1861, Wrexham district, vol. 11b, page 300
FreeBMD has a duplicate entry with a query over the page number, but I checked the scan and it clearly says 300.

You may already have this, but Margaret and Wilfred both left wills. Margaret Saunders Jessop of 123 Coltman Street, Kingston-upon-Hull d. 8th January 1916 - her effects were £611.10s. Wilfred Jessop of Avanti Beverley Road, Kingston-upon-Hull d. 5th February 1930 - his effects were £14,195.0s.9d, a tremendous amount in those days.
Sadly, our dear friend Dorothy (alias Thomasin) passed away on Sunday, 17th. February, 2013.
