The Nag’s Head, Great Hale, Lincolnshire
I have recently been given some information that my 3 x Great Grandfather Anthony Creasey Taylor may have been the owner of the above inn for a period of time in the later 1840’s or 50’s.
I understand that before this ‘purchase’, the Inn belonged to his brother John Taylor. John died in 1848.
I am also pretty certain Anthony would not have been involved in the day to day running of this establishment as he had enough on as a farmer in Horbling, Heckington and Great Hale. I can identify Anthony‘s whereabouts by directories, census and other documents for the duration of his life from 1791 to 1888. So I am as sure as I can be that he did not reside at this Inn.
Researching the inn which sometimes appears in directories under Heckington (though there is a Nag’s Head in each place). So far I cannot find any record of it being Kept by a John Taylor but I have enough information to see that the inn did change hands from between 1843 and 1849. However the Innkeepers thereafter, though not necessarily the owners are listed in 1849 and 1850 as William Creasey and then in 1863 Hannah Creasey. Who as far as I know do not have any direct connection to Anthony, despite sharing the name. The only tie in I have for John, is on a burial register for a child of his on 28 Sep 1823 , where he is listed as a ‘publican’.
I am not sure if this story has got confused over time or if there is a element of accuracy to it. So I am looking for help, advice and suggestions.
Many thanks
Dan

Does A.C Taylor's will (proved 1889) mention the pub?

I only posses a transcription version and not in that but I am getting a family member to check the original again just in case.
Thanks
