    Default Glasgow records?

I am trying to track down criminal records from Glasgow.

I know that my gg grandfather was in jail over Feb 14, 1899, for 30 days. I don't know which 30 days it was and I don't know when the offence eas, but I know he was in for assault. Supposedly he was well known to police.

He's also missing in the 1911 Scottish census, and we wonder if he was back in jail.

I have looked at the online archive records from Edinburgh and his court records are not coming up when I do a search.

Any idea how I can trace this?

According to the NAS site, prisoners would have been recorded in the Scottish censuses, so if he was in jail, he ought to show up. So that may not be the explanation for you not being able to find him:

Could he have been in England on census night?

Have you tried contacting the Mitchell Library ? Pure joy for Scottish Glaswegian research (although if you cant get there yourself or know someone who is going i think you can pay a researcher there)

    Hi andarah

The Glasgow Herald is included in the 19th Century British Library Newspapers database. Do you have access to that? If not, you could post details of your ancestor's name and perhaps I or another forum member could check the database to see if the 1899 assault and court case are mentioned.
