Hi, [I]'d appreciate some help if possible! I'm looking for a birth/baptism for Bridgett Turner in Brampton in 1832. Her mother was Ann (Irish) and by 1851 they were living in Manchester. I'm guessing Ann was not married and hope that perhaps the church records confirm this and possibly show a father. Thanks, Judy

Hi Judy and welcome
Is it possible that Bridget was Roman Catholic? I think at that date Brampton would - possibly- be covered from Carlisle,( but am happy to be corrected).I looked at the LDS catalogue and it doesn't seem to have the catholic records for Carlisle. The church is now called Our Lady and St Joseph's, formerly St Mary's and St Joseph's. I don't know if there are any parish records but someone at Carlisle record office might be able to point you in the right direction or alternatively try Cumbria FHS. (They have a web site)
Apart from that - do you have any other information about Bridget or Ann which might be useful? Any siblings? Have you found her in 1841?

Many thanks to both of you. [I] had checked the IGI and found nothing. I did look for the 1841 census and again found nothng. The 1851 just shows Ann and Bridget -both unmarried. Ann from Ireland and Bridget from Cumberland. Its the 1861 census that shows her birth place to be Branmpton. I'm guessing Ann came from Ireland, got pregnant in Cumberland and they moved to Manchester. Bridget married Daniel Ritchie who was baptized Presbyterian in Co Down so I would say that Bridget was not Catholic. I think this is another one of those "dead ends". Again, thankyou. Judy

There is a public tree on Ancestry, they have put the Bridget Turner, wife of Daniel Ritchie as the daughter of
William and Hannah Turner.
They have her in the 1841 census
HO107/156, Book: 13, Drigg, ED2, F6, P14
(Census Copyright of TNA)
I don't think this is correct though as the Drigg born Bridget is in Drigg in 1851 with William and Hannah and your lass is in Manchester with Ann.
Just thought I would mention it as seems there is another searcher barking up the wrong tree.

The tree on Ancestry is definately wrong as that Bridget was with her father after mine had died. I shall have to check the tree on Ancerstry - it may well be one of my 2nd cousins. I know one of them did do some research and did come up with the Bridget in Drigg but when I checked into it further I found that it could't have been her. Many thanks for your reply. I think I'm just at a dead end here - another one of those "Irish" ones - on the back burner to check into when I've finished!!!!! my research!
