My GG Grandfather Alfred James BEARSLEY was born in Buckinghamshire in about 1837. I think his father's name may have been George.
I have found nothing on the BMD registers for 1837 so his birth must pre date these records.
I would appreciate any help available to find more info on him, his siblings and his parents.
Thanks
Loretta

Thanks for the quick reply Louisa.
I did consider this Alfred, but there was nothing I had that could tie them together as the same person so I felt my only hope was parish records in Bucks to get something more concrete.
I did pick Alfred up much later when he has moved to Lancashire and married - as he was a seaman his entries on the census are a little sporadic but his family consistently appear from 1871 onwards. He just seems to be really elusive!

Alfred BEARSLEY was born in 1837 (approx) in Buckingham, Buckinghamshire (as recorded on the only census I can find him on in 1881) he died sometime bef 1891. He married Ann BROOKING on 14 Feb 1864 in Liverpool, Lancashire. He had 6 children (plus one whom he presumably adopted as she was born before Alfred & Ann married & was living with Ann on the 1861 census with the surname BROOKING)

I take it you have Alfred in the 1871 census in Scotland. A Bartswain (sic) Mate. Born 1838 in Buckinghamshire.
1871: Parish: Vessels; ED: Algeria; Page: 68; Line: 8
Looks like his wife Ann may have died in 1889. You say Alfred died before 1891 but I just wondered if this was the same Alfred after 1881 (perhaps re-married) and living at Toxteth Park. An A. B. Sailor. Born abt 1838 in Buckingham.
1901: RG13 Piece: 3429 Folio: 38 Page: 24 (crown copyright, care of the TNA)
1911: RG14/22248 SN72
Note: surname looks like Beasley in 1901 and Bearsley in 1911.
