Know this is tricky & I realise it is dated 1854 but is it really that old? Could it be 1903? Your thoughts appreciated thanks, Mitch

It looks much much later to me but the chair appears to be the classic Thonet Model 14 Bentwood chair and that dates from 1859 and although it can’t be 1854, it could still be relatively early.

For what it is worth - a Catherine Watson Russell - was born in 1898 last quarter, in Newcastle upon Tyne. The chid looks to be about 2, so I think your assumption is correct - early 1900's

I'm sure this photo has been scanned, edited with software and the incorrect date added before re-printing.
Definitely not mid 1800's

Thanks folks. I suspected so.
Catherine Bain WATSON was born on the date shown in the photo in Scotland. She married a Mr RUSSELL.
Her Granddaughter Catherine Bain Watson MITCHELL was born in 1903, also in Scotland, and I feel the photo is more likely to be her.
