Question 1851 census for St Pancras

    Hi,

Can anyone look at the 1851 census for St Pancras, for the Packer family. Father, John, Mother, Ade (Ede or Edith), and I only know of one child that was born in St Pancras in 1844, called Emma. I am sure there are many more children, as the couple married in the Old Church St Pancras in 1824, had their first child in Diddlebury, Shropshire, where the Grandparents lived, then I have a huge gap of 18 years to Emma Packer.

Any help, or directional guidance will be gratefully received.

    Many thanks.

    Carol

    Hi Carol,

I know that the Family Record Centre have surname indexes for parts of London on the 1851 Census, though on microfiche.

A look on their web site does not give an index of the microfiche, so I suggest you email them and ask if they have one for St Pancras.

Of interest is their list available to search on CD:
    "Census Surname Indexes

The Family Records Centre has a large number of census surname indexes on microfiche and in booklet form. We also have an ever-growing collection of census indexes on CDs which are listed below.

If you would like to use any of these indexes, please ask the staff at the Research Enquiry desk on the first floor. Those marked with a * are available on the Family History Database PCs.

The FRC do indeed have the 1851 surname index for St Pancras - in fact, for 1851 they have the whole of London north of the Thames and most of London south of the Thames.

Most of them (including St Pancras) are on microfiche, but there are some that are in books. They mostly work by the registration district numbers, but from memory I *think* that Hampstead and St Pancras have been lumped together, so it's probably the set of fiche marked "8" rather than "9".
