Arthur Moss Foster, son of John Foster and Rebecca Dunn (married June 1861), was born in 1866 in Selby. The family lived at 'Park House' (6, The Crescent). Arthur was a bit of a traveller/explorer and he found himself prospecting in Matabeleland in 1896 when the troubles led to the 2nd Matabele War. He volunteered for service with the Gwelo Field Force under Captain Gibbs and was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal for his service. Family tradition says he then travelled to the Klondike to take part in the gold rush.

Does anyone have any more info on this adventurer? I've tried searching for his passage from Rhodesia to Canada and for possible graves in the Klondike. I got a rather weird lead the other day that suggested he might have had links with the anti-slavery organisation in the USA.
