Have a look at this family in 1851, I know the surname is not quite RACE, but - look at the address.

1851: HO107 Piece: 2405 Folio: 487 Page: 63 (crown copyright, care of the TNA)

Perhaps aplender has Margaret's marriage certificate and can tell us the name of her father?

Just found that one Olliecat - the original has them as Reece.

The IGI has the baptism of Margaret Ann Race 20/2/1853 at St. Andrew Newcastle upon Tyne Father Samuel Race mother Jane Race.

I think we need aplender to come back to us with any other info - before we can progress any more

Well, I have no real preference either way because if it turned out to be the family Pennydog found, then that would be easier.

Just spotted pennydog's previous post, with a possible christening. Yes! I think we really need her father's name.

I like that one better too - especially as I cannot find a Samuel and Jane Race on the 1851 census. This one is quite a strange one, nothing adds up at all. Must away and get dinner now - will see if anyone else come up with any other leads.

Thank all of you for the help. The only info we had was a John Plender M Margaret Reese then up pops John Plender M Margaret Race 12/81870. Still have a hard moving around the sites. Olliecat related that IGI has baptism of Margaret race 2/20/1853 in Newcastle on Tyne. I think this maybe it. How do I get to IGI. I really am new at this. You are all really great at this and I hope that as I go along I can be a help to someone in the future......Hazel

Hi. I think this is the christening you mean, the one that Pennydog found.

You can view a transcription of the christening on this family search site here...

    https://www.familysearch.org/search/...filtered=false

The christening appears to be listed four times. Just click on the down arrow on the top-right of each entry and you will get a little more information. It's a very useful site, so have a play around with it - you'll soon be using it as often as the rest as us.

I hope you don't mind me saying, but think it would be a good idea if you obtained a copy of Margaret's marriage certificate. That should give you her father's name and then you can be certain you have found the correct parents for her. If you need to know how to order a certificate, just shout.

Since you are new, if there is anything else you want to know or are unsure about, then just ask. That's what this forum is all about.

Glad you found us again aplender

The reference needed to purchase the marriage certifcate is September quarter 1870 Chester le Street 10a587.

Like Ollicat said if you are unsure how to order one just ask.
