Does anyone have any information on my Grandma Millington - born 1876 and lived in Marchington and ran the Post Office - had children Jack William Margery Dick Bob Mary (my mum) and Nancy. Jack died when he was 21 ( a motor bike accident) and he was buried in Forsbrook,Blythe Bridge. I wonder why he was buried there when his father John Willie (who died a few years later) was buried in Marchington? I know Jack was in the choir at Forsbrook church but wonder if he lodged there and if so -with whom?
I would be grateful of any snippets of info as my grandma (nee Williams) is quite a mystery .

Hi barleycup
You don't say your grandmother's first name. Is she the Frances Williams who married John Willie Millington in the Paddington district in the first quarter of 1902?
It might be worth looking at local newspapers for the time of Jack's burial, to see if the link to Forsbrook is explained.

The free index to the 1911 census shows that John Willie and Frances were then in the Northwich district. If you haven't already done so, you could see full details of the household by getting some credit with Findmypast (or finding a library with free access). Note that the details mustn't be posted here, though, for copyright reasons.

Me again! Post Office staff records should tell you more about your grandmother's working life. There is a family history guide here:
http:// catalogue.postalheritage.org.uk/dserve/bpma_docs/Family-History-Guide.html
but the World Archives Project to transcribe details from staff appointment books for 1831-1969 is now shown as 100% complete (http://www. ancestry.com/wiki/index.php?title=World_Archives_Project:_British_Po stal_Service_Appointment_Books), so hopefully that will all appear on Ancestry soon.

‘Jack’ (I deduce) is John Godfrey Millington born Herne, Kent (in Blean RD) June 1905 and died (John G Millington) Stoke upon Trent RD March Quarter 1927.
John Willie died, age 60, Uttoxeter RD, March Quarter 1933 .

Thanks for the interest in helping me.
I know that my grandparents were living at Marchington at the time of Jack's death - I have the copies of the Parish magazines giving the reports at the time - February 1927 for Jack in the Forsbrook magazine and April 1933 for his father - John Willie.
To quote the report of Jack's death in the Forsbrook magazine- 'a fearful shock to two parishes, Marchington, where he and his family are much repected and this ,where Jack was loved'
I wondered if maybe he lodged with a grandparent - as I say I am really trying to trace back my grandmother - from her death certificate she was born in Cheshire , John Willie was born and brought up in Audlem (Coxbank), was footman at Adderley Hall but they were married in Paddington (certificate states she was then resident at 7 St Stephens Square, which in the 1901 census is unoccupied) I do not know how they met - she must have been in service also I believe but cannot find her in the area at the time.
I cannot find her actual birth recorded either - her birthday was always celebrated 30 June . I believe she may have been illegitimate and maybe brought up by a relative ?? That's why I was trying to investigate the Forsbrook connection but it could also have been on his Father's side of the family of course.

Was a father's name recorded on her marriage certificate? Was she born in Audlem, Cheshire like her husband? It's just I came across a Frances Williams age 4, boarding with a Hope family in Audlem in the 1881 census and wondered if it was her.
